This past Saturday night, Pee Wee White visited the Broad Channel Shamrocks to try and up its record to 4-0. It was a clear, cool night and the Shamrocks were ready for the challenge. The Shamrocks who were 2-1 were about to show Pee Wee White why they were a team that should not be taken lightly. The game became a defensive battle right from the start.
Pee Wee White's offense, led by Anthony Wrightington, Dominique Alexander, Nick Ferrara, Andrew McKiel, Kyle Perkins, Eddie Valesquez, Tom Kowalski, JJ Castrianni, Dylan Muller, Brendan Gay, David Williams, and Sean Brophy, tried all game but were unable to penetrate Broad Channel's tough defense. On several occasions White's offense seemed to be gaining ground when a penalty or a turnover would turn them back. In fact the only score of the game when Broad Channel picked off an errant pass by Levittown and ran it back 50 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was missed but it was all the scoring Broad Channel needed to capture the victory.
White's defense was led by Tyler Rosenkranz, Mike Cook, Kevin McKenna, Nicholas Thomas, Ryan Butz, Ryan Bogdanowicz, Patrick Higgins, Ferrara, Alexander, Wrightington, Muller, Perkins, and Williams. They would give White's offense ample opportunities to put the ball in the end zone. Their tough defense kept the Shamrocks in check all game and got the ball back to its offense repeatedly but to no avail. Wrightington, Rosenkranz, and Thomas made key tackles during the game to support its defense. It should be mentioned that to this point in the season, White's defense has not allowed a point to be scored against them.
With two minutes remaining in the game, White's defense once again held the Shamrocks and gave the ball back to its offense with 41 seconds to go. White, with no time outs left, desperately tried one last time to put the ball in the end zone. Four times Kyle Perkins tried to pass the ball deep to Alexander but was unable to connect as time ran out.
Pee Wee White played their hearts out in suffering their first defeat but has vowed to come back with a vengeance in its next game. Go get them White!
