This season shapes up as a last chance for the 10 seniors on the Division Avenue Girls' Varsity Soccer Team to secure their second Conference Title since coming to the high school. When these seniors were freshmen they helped the Blue Dragons win the Conference Five title but have landed in second place the following two seasons.
Expectations are high this year with so many veterans returning. Leading the way is senior mid-fielder Colleen Sullivan. Sullivan is an All-Conference player who was a member of this year's Empire State Team from Long Island. Returning to the defense are seniors Julie Janas, Melissa Quartarolo, and all-League player Lisa Paternoster. Powering the offense are seniors Meredith Wise, Beth Bolognese, Renee Bruno, Carri To, and last season's high scorer Kelly Condit. In the goal for Division is senior Erica Hlawaty. This year the Blue Dragons will sorely miss senior All-Conference player Tina Traganos who was operated on this summer for a torn A.C.L. in her knee and will be out all season.
While there are few juniors on this year's squad, they are very valuable. Tori Blank, Chivon Noonan, and Krystyn Rutzel all promise to make an impact this season. Rounding out the team are sophomores Antoinette Jaeger, Colleen Sinnott, and Jamie Mediz. All three sophomores have worked themselves into key positions on the team. Last but not least is Jessica Graziano the only freshman on the team. Graziano has made an instant impact on the team and is now a full time starter.
With so many returning players the Lady Dragons hope to compete for a conference title and with the dedication these players have shown it may be within their grasp.
