This letter was written to Senator Kemp Hannon and is being printed here at the author's request.

My wife Elizabeth and I, to whom you wrote a letter dated Aug. 8 concerning the passing of "Buster's bill" into law would like to not only acknowledge receipt of the letter but to also express our great appreciation for this legislation. As animal lovers, it breaks our hearts when we see or hear or read about the abuse that's inflicted upon so many helpless creatures.

I don't know, nor can explain, the evil that lurks in the minds of these sick people that would intentionally harm in any way these pets. All that these animals want is love and if they receive it they return it tenfold.

As you stated, they do become members of the family. In the last year and a half we have had to put to sleep both a dog and a cat. Each time it was very emotional for both of us. Each time, however, we rescued another animal and they quickly started to supply us with the joy that we lost with the passing of our other pets. How anybody could abuse these beautiful creatures is so beyond us its incomprehensible. It is wonderful to know that those who do will have a price to pay. Our only wish is that the law can be expanded to protect other animals such as horses, pigs, monkeys, birds, etc. in all 50 states.

Again, please accept our sincerest thanks for seeing to it that this legislation was passed into law. Good luck!
