Two new books have been published within the last few months about the community that is known as the prototype for suburban housing developments in America, Levittown. The authors of these books, Susan Kirsch Duncan-Levittown:The Way We Were and Margaret Lundrigan and Tova Navarra-Levittown Volume II, have sought to inspire a greater understanding of the people and actions that created and shaped this town.

Local Twirler Brings Home Gold
Ellissa Johnson, 21, from Wantagh, N.Y. has returned home from the US National Baton Twirling Championships as the Gold Medalist in the US Team Selection for Senior Women. The top three women from across the country represent the US at the World Championships which were held immediately following the Nationals. It was in Daytona Beach, Florida, from July into August, that these two Championships were held, to terminate the 1999 competitive season.

Ryan Darcy Selected to First Team All State
Division Avenue High School senior right-handed pitcher Ryan Darcy was selected by the New York State Sports Writers to the First Team All State Baseball Team. Darcy is the third Division player to be selected to the All-State team. Sophomore Eric Fierro was selected to the sixth team and junior Dan Cronin was selected to the second team. The irony is that none of these players had been selected by Newsday as top players to watch going into the season.
