Division Avenue High School Junior Dan Cronin has just been selected by the New York State Sportswriters Association to the second team All-New York State Baseball Team.
Cronin was selected to the team for both his pitching and hitting. As a pitcher this season, Cronin posted a 9-1 record while striking out 104 batters in the 68 innings he pitched. Cronin has only allowed 20 walks to opposing batters in that same time. He hurled two shutouts in his 10 starts, including a no-hitter against the highly regarded Southside Cyclones.
Cronin's baseball success was not limited to pitching. He was also a very successful first baseman and a top hitter for the Blue Dragons. Cronin was the leadoff batter for the Dragons, batting a .393. As the leadoff batter he set the table for the middle of the Division batting order, striking out only six times in 107 times at bat. Cronin also had 23 stolen bases out of 24 attempts. Despite being only a junior, Cronin led the team in runs scored with 39.
It was Cronin's two-run homer that gave the Dragons the additional runs they needed to win the Long Island Baseball Title over Hauppauge by a score of 3-2.
To go along with Cronin's baseball honors, he was also selected to the second team All-County Basketball team.
Cronin's talents are not limited to athletics. He is also a very good student, boasting a 90+ classroom average over his three years at Division.
