Senior citizens are working more years and doing more in their golden years than ever before yet they are still being overlooked and overburdened by the younger generation, industry and even the government.
Senior citizens are among the largest population of consumers and yet an industry such as pharmaceutical manufacturers is still discriminating against these individuals.
It seems unreal that any company could get away with charging seniors an average of 100 percent over what favored customers are charged, much less charging them in some cases over 1,000 percent higher and yet it is happening in our aging population every day.
Lawmakers who have the opportunity to correct this disparity should be commended for their efforts to recognize and help a population that is often overlooked in our society.
If for no other reason than the fact that seniors cannot spend their money on other products if they are spending all their money on prescriptions, manufacturers need to take action and correct the pricing discrepancy for seniors.
Our seniors are becoming a more active and vital part of the society than they ever have been before and should be treated as such. To take advantage of and risk the health of the population just because they reach a certain age is unacceptable.
