Throughout this week our country has witnessed an incredible tragedy with the death of John F. Kennedy, Jr., his wife Carolyn and her sister Lauren Bessette. Throughout this tragedy, we have also witnessed great dedication in a very difficult situation. Right now the focus is still on the Kennedys and the Bessettes and the tragedy that has befallen them, but we cannot forget the hours, manpower and dedication that has been demonstrated by the US Coast Guard, the Air Force, and all the people who have contributed to the search for JFK Jr.'s plane.

Before the Coast Guard announced on Sunday night that they were shifting their focus from a search and rescue mission to a search and recovery mission and had given up any hope of finding survivors, both the Coast Guard and the Air Force and all those involved, dedicated themselves, despite the odds, to finding any possible survivors of the plane crash.

One might say that it is these organizations' jobs to dedicate themselves to a mission such as this, but we must not forget that this has not been an ordinary mission for them. Never before, on a mission such as this have they had the eyes of the entire world watching them, and looking to them to find any glimmer of hope of a victim's survival.

The people involved in the search effort have shown themselves to be true national heroes, despite the heartbreaking ending.

In Levittown, the community has a true hometown hero, who in the midst of a nation's tragedy has shown that not all news has to be bad.

George Boneillo has shown himself to be a hero in the truest sense of the word. Without even thinking about the risk to his own life, he saved the life of at least one person on the Long Island Expressway last weekend.

The Webster's definition of a hero is: a man celebrated for special achievements and attributes. George Boneillo has shown that he deserves this title, a title which he humbly rejects. His humility in the wake of this great achievement is the proof that he does deserve this title.

At a time when we are seeing so much heartbreak and pain in the newspapers everyday, it was a true pleasure to feature the heroic story of George Boneillo, a story with a happy ending, on the front page.
