The Nassau County PAL Lacrosse League is an instructional program, teaching fundamentals, good sportsmanship, and character. It also stresses education and good grades with athletics. PAL's motto is, "it is better to build youth than to to mend adults."

This past season, through the great efforts of John Garvey, his daughter Erin, and their assistant Allison Gersten the "Lady Tomahawks" lacrosse team was born. It is comprised of 25 girls from fourth through sixth grade. For first year players they had an outstanding season - four wins, two losses, and two ties. They all had a great time.

The Lady Tomahawks and Tomahawks finished their seasons on Sunday June 6, with 103 players participating. There were also 30 co-ed players in the second grade clinic.

The season culminated with an awards brunch held at Antun's in Hicksville on Sunday, June 13, which was a great success. The guest speaker at the brunch was John Lott, who came through this program, and played for Levittown Memorial and Division Avenue High Schools, and Old Dominion University. Since 1991, Lott has been the head coach for the seventh and eighth grade teams. In his speech he emphasized education, marks, and striving to do one's best, not giving up.

A new award was established last year in memory of a boy who came through the program and tragically lost his life. The Deene DuBeau Sportsmanship Award is presented to a boy who demonstrates good sportsmanship, leadership, and character. This year's recipient was Rich Balder.

Participation certificates and trophies were presented to all players.
