Once again, community members have been honored for their commitment to Levittown. It was great to see that the hard, thankless work of the Citizens Budget Advisory Committee and board member George Bruno was recognized at the most recent Levittown School Board meeting.
Very often people who put themselves on the line are criticized more often than praised, especially in the case of the school board. This month's meeting was a small token for all that the school board does for the community.
It seems that every few months we run something in this paper about the blood shortage on Long Island.
The fact that we sometimes go months without hearing about this critical shortage could be a result of several factors. One possibility is that after hearing about the blood shortages people rush out to donate blood, thus reducing the need for a brief while. Another possibility is that sometimes there are months that the need for blood is not as great. Whatever the reason behind why we sometimes go months without hearing about the blood shortages, the fact remains that the shortages always return.
There is a constant demand for blood and so few reasons why not to donate. The mild uneasiness one may experience while giving blood can be surpassed by the knowledge that your donation may have saved several lives or helped someone to live a better life.
Please, as we go deeper into the summer consider taking a little bit of time to donate blood. It is a small price for a great reward.
