Often when one meets a celebrity that person's illusions are shattered. Stars rarely live up to the ideals we would like them to.
This disillusionment did not occur this past week with Rock and Roll Legend Billy Joel.
I have been a huge fan of the Piano Man for over half of my life. When I was offered the opportunity to not only meet him, but to interview him I was thrilled. It was definitely a highlight of my career thus far.
Meeting Billy Joel was a major moment in my life and I expected to be nervous and I was...until he actually began speaking.
Joel could have limited our meeting to just the presentation of the proclamation from the governor and assembly, declaring May 9 as Billy Joel Day in the state of New York, but he didn't. Following the presentation he graciously took the time for a lengthy interview in which he shared many memories of growing up in the Levittown area.
What was a very exciting experience, became even more thrilling because of Joel's attitude. Rather than being disillusioned by the reality, I became an even bigger Billy Joel fan after meeting him. He is truly a down to earth man who has never forgotten that his roots are in Levittown, where, as he mentioned, he sometimes delivered the Levittown Tribune.
