The varsity baseball team defeated Jericho by a score of 13-12 in an exciting and exhausting 10-inning affair. Mike Santonocito's three run homer in the 10th won it for the Bulldogs. Manny Lopes went four for five with three RBIs, while Mike Cudia also homered. The highlight of the day was Ryan Pastore's titanic homerun, which many feel was the longest in Island Trees history. Ron Olivero pitched six solid innings before tiring in the seventh inning.

With their backs to the wall, needing a win against a powerhouse Clarke team, which came into the game 13 and 1, the varsity baseball team went to battle. The outcome was an astounding 3-1 victory to clinch a playoff berth in the Nassau Baseball Championship Tournament which started Saturday, May 22. Anthony Pena tossed a complete game five hitter to pick up the win. Mike Cudia's mammoth two-run homer drove in Mike McCave to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-1 in the second inning. Rookie Greg Thomson drove in an insurance run, singling in Anthony Pena with a key two out hit. The Bulldogs played excellent defense led by Sal DiBenedetto, Joe Iglio, Manny Lopes and Chris Mason.

The JV Bulldogs won their 14th game in a row and improved their record to 15 and 3 by beating Clarke by a score of 10-2. The JV team was led by an outstanding pitching performance by Michael Thompson. At the plate the Bulldogs started their scoring with the help of a triple by Paul Liguori to bring in a run and a squeeze by Dan Beale. The Bulldogs continued to score behind the bat of Tom Lombardi who had three hits on the day.

The Girls JV Softball team finished out their season last week. Captains Kristina Ruff, Sandy Baglivo, Carol Lehman and Caity Donahue played a great season. Christine Fielding, Michelle McGowan, Ryan Ann Ezzo, Lisa Smith, Cheryl Werling, Dana Rinaldi, Kristen Schafer, Colleen McGrath, Kristen Mullervy and Elizabeth Dinoflo also played a great season. Great season girls and good luck to those who moved up to varsity.

Five different lacrosse players scored goals as the Island Trees Lacrosse team defeated a strong Wisdom Lane team by the score of 6-4. Brian Bennetti had two goals while Mike Rossi, Kevin McGovern, Paul DePasquale, Paul Wigdzinski and Justin O'Donnell each added one. The three goalies, Matt Fiorello, JC Stellakis and Paul Caffrey all had a strong game.

The Boys eighth grade Baseball team traveled to Hicksville to take on the Comets. Herbert Reyes tossed a gem. In only his second ever appearance on the mound, Herb scattered five hits, gave up 0 earned runs and struck out eight batters while surrendering one walk in a complete game performance. The Bulldogs scored their one run as Chris Cramer reached on a fielder's choice and Zack Strauss singled him home. Hitting stars of the day were Rob Giovi, Chauncey Garcia, John Zarrelli, James Scrimo, Dennis Ezzo and Chris Hoebeler. Outdueled in a pitcher's battle, the Dawgs played their finest ball of the year.

The seventh grade Lady Dawgs softball team lost a tough game to Wisdom Lane. The Dawgs fell behind by nine early in the game, but rallied for six runs in the top of the sixth to get within three. Lindsay Burleson and Nikki Pena overcome the Dawgs early defensive troubles and pitched effectively enough to keep them in the game. Lisa Provenzano hit her fourth homerun of the year and Romina Chacon, Jessica Lospitalier, Shannon McAdam, Angela Megliola and Lindsay Burleson contributed a hit each. Defensively, Kristen Gilson made a spectacular catch in left field and Romina Chacon showed great hustle.
