(Editor's Note: This letter was written to Levittown Assistant Superintendent for Business Dr. Alan Groveman and is being printed at the author's request.)
As I sat watching the local TV news reports of the failing of our school budget, I was infuriated to hear your comments on how the voters of this community "did not fully understand," or "were confused" about our school budget. How dare you publicly insult the intelligence of the people of Levittown! I believe that the residents of our community fully understood that a 10 percent increase coming from a school district whose State School Report Card was mediocre at best was unacceptable, especially when the average Long Island budget increase was only 6 percent. Your budget was based on the knowledge that the average homeowner was receiving a reduction of approximately $350 from the STAR program and you expected us to just hand practically all of it over to you. I have three children in this school district and I voted in favor of this budget, even though I disagreed with it. Obviously, many people disagreed as well. They voted no. You were sent a message and I hope you realize that the residents of this community deserve your respect, an apology, and a reasonable budget.
