The Varsity Baseball team won its third straight game by a score of 4-2 over the Manhasset Indians. Anthony Pena tossed a complete game four hitter to pick up the win. Mike Cudia's RBI triple in the first inning broke the ice for the Bulldogs. Joe Iglio went 1 for 2 with a big two-out double in the third inning. (Steamer had two RBIs on the day.) Mike Santonocito went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Manny Lopes continued his hot hitting going 1 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base. The Bulldogs solid, all around defense was a key in the victory. The team continues its drive to the play-offs.
The JV Baseball team defeated Manhasset 7-6. Tom Lombardi led the Bulldogs with two hits and Scott Kapica pitched a complete game to get the win.
The Island Trees Badminton team is having an outstanding season. The Lady Dawgs are currently tied for second place in their conference with a 7-3 team record. With the regular season almost at a close, many players are looking towards individual conference championships. First singles player Merari Chacon has already qualified for a spot in conference championships, while second singles player April Orthner, first doubles players Christine Sampson and Jessica Sampson and second doubles players Kim Grant and Sonal Temburni are all well on their way to the conference championships. The other players on the team have contributed immensely to the success of the team. They include third singles player Christine McCave, third doubles Reena Temburni and Jill Bischoff, fourth doubles Maggie Cheng and Christina Chan and alternates Elyse O'Brien and Melanie Smith. Manager Scott Boiallis and Coach Christine Price have also contributed greatly to the team's success.
The seventh grade baseball team lost to undefeated Berner by the score of 14-13. Anthony Rinaldi pitched a great game. The team hit the ball well.
The eighth grade baseball team traveled to Grand Avenue on Wednesday. Herbert Reyes made his pitching debut throwing four innings and allowing one earned run. Rob Giovi singled and scored as did John Zarrelli, who also had a great day at short stop, throwing out several men from deep in the hole. Contributing key hits were Dennis Ezzo, Chris Cramer and Fernando Suarez. Chris Hoebeler's put out at home on a perfect relay was The Play of the Day.
The seventh grade Lady Dawgs Softball team defeated Howitt for its first victory of the season, pushing its record to 1-2-1. Nikki Pena and Lindsay Burleson combined for seven strikeouts over five innings for the win. In the first inning, the girls batted around and scored 14 runs. Lisa Provenzano led the offensive explosion with a grand slam and a double with the bases loaded to give her seven RBIs in the inning. Shannon McAdam, Samantha Miller, Jessica Lospitalier and Lindsay Burleson each had two hits and scored twice in the inning. Crystal Squitieri, Christina LoFaso, Roula Berdebes and Romina Chacon all contributed with great defensive play.
On Monday the Boys Lacrosse team defeated Plainview 7-5. Paul Wigdzinski scored three goals, Brian Bennetti contributed two goals and Joe McCauley and Mike Rossi each had one. Goalies Matt Fiorello and J.C. Stellakis were great in goal. The Bulldogs look to extend their winning streak in their next game against Merrick Ave.
The Track team placed second in its opening meet against Hicksville and Howitt. In the 55 hurdles Ken Spicer placed first and Donald Klang second. Stefani Caminiti placed first and Rachael LoGatto placed second. In the 400 Christina Solis finished first and Chelsea Marciano placed third. Donald Klang finished second in the boys. In the 100 m. Melanie Hallas placed third. In the 800 Ken Spicer placed third. In the 55 m. Melanie Hallas took first and and Stefani Caminiti took second. In the 200 m. Christina Solis took first and Lauren Curran placed second. Kerianne Spiess also placed fourth. In the 1500 Donald Ludwig placed third and in the field events Adam Macaluso finished second in high jump and shot put.
