I had a feeling that the Levittown Administration and Board of Education were going to take advantage of the STAR Program to dramatically increase spending. The latest propaganda that was mailed to residents of the district heralds an increase in spending of 8.1 percent and a tax rate increase of 10.2 percent. All this and our taxes go down by $39 per year! What great planning! The spin doctors worked overtime on this one. This scheme begs the question how much would our taxes decrease if the annual budget increased along the lines of inflation, which is approximately three percent.
Another interesting observation is the inclusion of funds in this budget for "major building improvements, including a new athletic track, science lab and additional window replacements." I do recall voting for a $19 million bond issue for capital improvements in the not too distant past. I guess these projects must have just popped up.
I have been a resident of the Levittown School District for many years, and I am amazed at how the people who run the district have the audacity to insult my intelligence and that of all the taxpayers with such a plan. They must really think we are stupid. The proper response to this budget proposal is an overwhelming rejection on May 18. Let these people know that you see through their manipulation of the facts.
