This week the Division Avenue varsity baseball team played Great Neck South High School for first place. The Dragons defeated Great Neck with a three game sweep of the series.
The Dragons took game one of the series with a 15-2 victory. Senior righthander Ryan Darcy was the winning pitcher for Division, scattering five hits and striking out 10 batters.
Division led 4-2 in the fourth inning when Steve Juliano hit a three run triple to break the game open. Joe Woods and Eric Fierro paced the Division offense with three hits each. Other big hitters for the Dragons were Kevin Saragossi, Alex Muniz, and Kevin Schneider who had two hits apiece to pace the Dragons.
On Tuesday the Dragons played Great Neck South again. This time Division beat Great Neck with a 10-2 victory. Dan Cronin was the winning pitcher, allowing only two runs in the six innings that he pitched. In a peculiar situation Cronin also got the save. Cronin left the game with a 10-23 lead when Great Neck rallied in the seventh inning to make the score 10-8. At this time Cronin went back into the game with two outs in the seventh inning to gain a save to go along with the win.
The Division offense was led by Juliano who had a three run homer in the fourth inning to put the Dragons ahead to stay with a score of 4-2. Cronin and Schneider both had two RBIs to help the Dragons' cause. Alex Muniz was a big part of the Dragon offense with three hits in three at bats. Joe Laudisio added two hits with an RBI and two runs scored for the day.
On Friday the Dragons came out with their hitting shoes on. The Blue Dragons won the game with an 11-1 victory. PJ Antoniato was the winning pitcher, allowing only three hits. Antoniato also struck out 12 Great Neck batters.
For the third straight game Juliano put Division ahead when he hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Kevin Saragossi also hit a two-run homer in the first. Cronin added two hits and two RBIs for the Dragons.
Next week the Division nine has a bye.
