Many land developments go unnoticed but this has not been the case at the corner of Wantagh Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike. Over the last week many people have called the Levittown Tribune to ask what is going on at that lot.

Other times land developments cause outcries about overcrowding and overexpansion but this also has not been the reaction in Levittown.The building of a Target Shopping Center on this property has been met with enthusiasm. Rather than being a pretty open field this lot has become a burden and a blemish on the Levittown area. How much longer can open space be encouraged if people continue to destroy it?

The development of this land is a good thing for the community not only because it will create more jobs and bring in additional revenue but because it will stop the littering and loitering that has run rampant on this property. How sad that an open space can no longer stay open without people ruining it for no reason.

Where will the children go to hang out now that the vacant lot is gone? Where will the illegal vendors bring their trucks to sell their wares now that the land is being developed? Will they just move on to another empty lot, thus causing that land to have to be developed as well?

If people could be considerate of others and enjoy the land that surrounds us, maybe every empty space on Long Island would not have to be developed just to prevent it being destroyed.
