The world reacted in horror to the shooting spree in which two Colorado students took the lives of 12 classmates and one teacher at Columbine High School. The Island Trees Board of Education voted on Tuesday to adopt a budget proposal of $31,917,798, which represents a 5.27 percent increase over last year's budget. This budget will be voted upon by taxpayers on May 18. FULL STORY

The seventh grade girls softball team played to a six inning tie against Wantagh. The team was led by an excellent pitching performance from Nikki Pena. She allowed two earned runs and struck out 10 though six innings. Lisa Provenzano sparked the offense with a towering home run to lead off the sixth that helped to preserve the tie. Scoring two runs apiece were Samantha Miller, Danielle Baglivo and Shannon McAdam. All the girls played well. FULL STORY
