On Friday March 19, the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents, the Nassau District PTA, and the Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association co-sponsored an event at Brookside School in Bellmore aimed at sharing information, educating, and lobbying local assemblymembers for more state aid for schools.

DEC Discusses Cleanup of Hazardous Waste Site
Last week, the Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Department of Health held a public informational meeting at Salk Middle School, to discuss the Proposed Remedial Action Plan (PARP) for the Wantagh Cleaners Site, located on the corner of Wantagh Avenue and Sandhill Road.

Levittown Sports Spotlight
This year the Girls Varsity Basketball team at Division Avenue High School returned to the Nassau County Playoffs after a one year absence. The girls were led by senior captain Kathryn Taraci. Taraci averaged nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals for the Blue Dragons this season.

Island Trees Sports
The 8th grade Girls Basketball team concluded their season with a spectacular game against Plainview. Trailing by as many as 14, the Lady Dawgs fought back to within 3 before falling. Leading the Dogs was Erin Carroll with 6, followed by Rebecca Santoriello with 5. Scoring 4 each were Candace Grosser and Chelsea Marciano.
