On Saturday, Feb. 6 the Levittown Chamber of Commerce held their 39th Annual Installation Dinner Dance and celebrated the 40th anniversary of its original charter.

The evening began with a welcoming speech by Joe Rogers who served as Master of Ceremonies. The US Marine Corps Honor Guard then had the presentation of colors and Lois Cornibert, the new first vice president, led those gathered in the National Anthem and pledge of allegiance.

Many dignitaries were present and were introduced by Joel Berse. Politicians who joined in the festivities included, County Comptroller Fred Parola, Assemblywoman Kathleen Murray, Assemblyman Marc Herbst, County Executive Thomas Gulotta, County Legislator Dennis Dunne Town of Hempstead Supervisor Richard Guardino, and Town Councilwoman Linda Reed.

Parola swore in the new chamber of commerce President Dr. Jacklyn Nogan, her officers, Cornibert, second vice president Kathy Wilbert, and treasurer Fred Form as well as the board of directors for 1999-2000.

Honored at the event was Assemblywoman Kathleen Murray, who along with Senator Kemp Hannon who worked to get grants for Levittown to revitalize Hempstead Turnpike. Last year Murray gave the chamber a grant for $25,000 for signs welcoming people to Levittown, which will be placed on either end of the Levittown section of Hempstead Turnpike.

Also honored at the dinner were Kevin Wilson and Kevin Regan. Wilson, an accountant, was the recipient of the President's Award for his service to the chamber. He became involved with the chamber six years ago and had served as the chamber's treasurer since 1996. Regan received the Community Service Award for his work with the Levittown-Island Trees Youth Council, Nassau County Youth Board, Levittown Kiwanis, Levittown Community Council, and much more. Regan has contributed to the community at many levels and has enriched the lives of many people in the community.

The evening was also set aside to honor past presidents of the chamber and people and companies that have been members of the chamber for 25 years or more. Nogan spoke about each of the past presidents and their contributions to the chamber. While many of the past presidents were there to receive their awards those who were not there because they had moved away or passed away were remembered for their contributions as well. Thomas Dalton, who served as president in 1968 and 1969, and passed away this past year was remembered fondly and his award was accepted by his wife and daughter. Nineteen companies and individuals were honored for being members of the chamber for 25 years or more.

Following the awards and the rest of the program members of the chamber and their guests enjoyed dinner and dancing. Nogan, who was joined by her mother and other family members, showed her enthusiasm for her new position as president throughout the evening. The event was a true celebration for Nogan, her fellow officers, the award recipients and all those who attended the dinner dance.
