After trailing 9-6, the Division Avenue Blue Dragons Boys Basketball team went on a 16--0 scoring streak and went on to defeat Hewlett 67-47 to move its league record to 4-3.
Joe Dlabola tied the score at 9 by hitting a 3 point shot at the four minute mark and Kevin Saragossi made a lay-up to give the Blue Dragons the lead that they never relinquished.
Dlabola wound up with 12 points and Saragossi had 16, with 12 rebounds, but individual honors went to Dan Cronin who had a rare triple-double by hitting for 23 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and handing off for 10 assists.
In the second half, the Bulldogs could get no closer than 14 points in the final two minutes of the game, but Jeff Maza came off the bench to score the last six points for Division to determine the final outcome.
Division faces a tough week with three games in five days. They open with home games against New Hyde Park and Great Neck South, two teams that have defeated Westbury, the pre-season favorite to win the league title. The Dragons then finish the week with a visit to Carey.
"It's an exciting time of the year, with every game being like a playoff game," said Coach Don Mackay. "The playoffs have been our goal since the beginning of the season," explained Mackay, "and as we get closer to the end of the season, every game takes on added importance."
