The Island Trees Varsity Wrestling team opened its league schedule with a win over Friends Academy with a score of 51 - 21. The Bulldogs were led by Jason Bates, Robert Nelson, James DelMonaco and Attilio Agostino who all scored by pins. The most exciting bout of the match came at the 152-lb. weight class, where Greg Rossi of Island Trees decisioned the Friends wrestler by a score of 18-11.

On Friday, Jan. 15, Island Trees hosted an Alumni Match in which 50 former wrestlers spanning several decades attended the festivities. Former State Champs John Golden and Don Fay spoke about their years at Island Trees and how wrestling had been such a positive influence in their lives. The wrestling team would like to thank all the alumni for attending this event.

Island Trees won the Alumni Match with a score of 54-24. It was an evening of extraordinary wrestling performances! Mike Santor, Jason Bates, Steve Squitieri, Vinny Militano, James DelMonaco, Attilio Agostino and Rich Carroll recorded pins. Sean Murphy won by technical fall and a major decision by Rob Nelson.

Island Trees next home event is on Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. against Manhasset. Come out and support the Island Trees Mat Men!

The Girls JV Basketball team won in their game against Cold Spring Harbor by a score of 28-26. High scorers included Michelle McGowan with seven, Elena O'Brien with six, Meghan Voss with four and April Ortherner with four. Other scorers included Mary O'Brien, Lauren Smath and Joann O'Brien. Great game was played by Erin Ludewig, Danielle Cama, Dana Rinaldi and Ashley Tonno. Keep up the good work girls!
