Mike Neal and Dan Cronin combined for 14 of 19 opening quarter points as the Division Avenue Blue Dragons Boys Basketball team went on to a 76-67 victory over Calhoun. The win followed a 64-50 loss to Glen Cove.

Six three-point baskets highlighted the first half attack against Calhoun as the Blue Dragons expanded their lead to 16 at the break. The taller Colts could get no closer than eight late in the fourth quarter. Cronin tied his career high of 29 points while also gathering in 12 rebounds and handing off for five assists. Kevin Saragossi added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Neal's career high 15 points and Joe Dlabola's 12 with six assists added to the Dragons' offense.

The win pushed the Dragons' league record to 3-3 while improving its overall mark to 7-5. Steve Burzo and sophomore Alex Patsos each had 19 points for the 1-5 Calhoun squad.

Glen Cove scored the first 12 points of the game and increased its streak to 23-5 late in the first quarter. The Blue Dragons narrowed the lead to six just before halftime, but two quick baskets by Glen Cove increased the lead to 10 at the intermission.

The Dragons, despite shooting only 34 percent from the field stayed close, trailing by only six with four minutes left. Glen Cove took advantage of the gambling Division defense and pulled away for a 64-50 victory, increasing its record to 4-1. Cronin's 20 points were high for Division, while Todd Johnson hit for 25 and Joe Carrotta 17 for the victors.

"The Calhoun win was a big one for us," said Coach Don Mackay. "Illness and injuries have limited practices for the last week and it showed in the Glen Cove loss," explained the coach, "but the kids came back only two days later in a big way to beat Calhoun in a game we had to win to stay in playoff contention."

Garden City remained unbeaten with a 6-0 record, while Glen Cove moved into a tie with South Side for second place, each with only one loss. Division and Westbury are next with 3-3 records.
