After suffering consecutive losses to top seeded Westbury, 79-49 and third seeded South Side, 75-65, the Division Avenue High School Blue Dragons boys varsity basketball team rebounded with a 24-5 first quarter against H. Frank Carey, as they coasted to a 78-47 victory. This was followed by a 65-56 win over Great Neck South, to bring the Blue Dragons record to 2-2 in Conference B-111 and 6-4 overall.

The third quarter was the Dragons undoing against South Side, as the Cyclones pushed a lead to 10 points after being tied at the half. The Dragons matched the high scoring South Side squad in the fourth quarter, but could get no closer than 6, before losing by 10. Dan Cronin's 20 points led the way, while Joe Dlabola had 13 and Kevin Saragossi had 11.

Westbury's hot shooting and Division's worst shooting night of the season cost the Blue Dragons any chance of an upset. Kevin Mulholland came off the bench to score 10 points, but it wasn't enough to offset the seven three-pointers by Westbury, that put the game away with a 24-11 third-quarter outburst.

The Carey win was sparked by the guard play of Rob Ludwig and Dlabola. Ludwig's 15 points led the balanced scoring attack that saw 10 Dragons get into the scoring column. Dlabola added 13 points and had six assists. Guards Mike Neal and Mulholland added eight points respectively, as forward Cronin hit for nine points with seven rebounds. The Seahawks freshman Robert Mostacci, playing in his first varsity game led the losers with 18 points.

Ludwig hit three of his four three-point field goals in the first half to give Division a 29-23 lead over Great Neck South, but it was Dlabola's eight points that helped them pull away in the third period. The lead increased to 17 in the fourth quarter, before Great Neck rallied to close the gap to nine. Cronin's 15 points were tops for the Dragons, who also saw Dlabola hit for 13 points, while Ludwig added 12. Cronin also had nine rebounds and five steals. Jason Friedman had 16 points to pace Great Neck's scoring attack.

The Dragons face a big week as they visit fourth seeded Glen Cove and second seeded Calhoun in conference play.
