I read with great interest the article in the Levittown Tribune about Smith's Pharmacy and its sudden closing. I always had a special feeling for the pharmacy, as my deceased dad, who was in the interior store fixture business for most of his life, put the fixtures in the original store. When he moved in with me for a few short years as he was aging (turning 90), he immediately used the pharmacy for his needs. Dave was exceptionally pleasant to him and always took the time to explain everything to him, even his billing system, which was hard for my dad to understand. I do not think he ever told Dave that he put that store up so long ago.
I can sympathize with Meta Smith. I too shall miss the neighborhood pharmacy and am concerned about being forced, for economic reasons, to use "mail order prescriptions." Nevertheless, as Meta pointed out, that is the way of the world.
Perhaps we can change it back to the old way- Mom and Pop stores again. What do you think?
