The Island Trees Varsity wrestling team opened up its season with a sixth place finish at the Uniondale Invitational. Place winners were James DelMonaco - first, Rich Carroll - first, Sean Murphy - second, Vincent Militano - third and Attilio Agostino - fourth. The Bulldogs then finished ninth in the very tough MacArthur Invitational. Place winners were James DelMonaco - third, Jason Bates - fifth, Robert Nelson - fifth and Richard Carroll - sixth.

Island Trees opened its dual meet season with a 30-30 tie with Levittown Division. Strong efforts were put forth by Jason Bates, Steve Squitieri and Sean Murphy. The match was tied at 220 pounds when Carroll snuck out a 5-4 decision for the tie.

Island Trees' next home event is the JV Ted Petersen Tournament at the Island Trees Middle School on Tuesday, Dec. 29. Come out and support the Bulldogs.

The Island Trees Boys JV Basketball team took their first victory of the season over Wantagh. This game was a nailbiter all the way. At the end of the fourth quarter it was tied at 45 as the Bulldogs forced overtime. Mike Fusci and Dan Beale played clutch roles as they both contributed big buckets on OT. Rich Catherall showed off his defensive skills with a steal and a key assist. Jonathan Sguigna led the team with 14 points, while shooting 4-4 from the free throw line. Other scorers included John Olivero, Paul Gartner, Mike Thompson, Norberto Cabarcas, Chris Mason, Rich Catherall and Mike Carroll. The Dawgs defeated the Warriors by a score of 52-47. Good luck for the rest of the season.

The seventh grade White Volleyball team lost a tough match against Plainview. Roula Berdebes scored six straight points in the second game. Outstanding sportsmanship by the entire team. Good returns by Alyssa Fleming and Kerianne Spiess. Great effort made by all.

The seventh grade White Volleyball team played a great game against North Shore. Although they only won one out of four matches, they gave their opponents a good fight. Mary Seremeta scored seven straight points in the second match and Roula Berdebes scored 11 total points in the fourth match, making a final score of 15-11 Island Trees. Great effort made by all!

The eighth grade girls volleyball team lost a tough match 2-1. They won the first game with a 16-14 win against a previously unbeaten Seaford squad. They fought hard in games two and three, but came up just short. Patty Eleazer who served for nine points in game one led the team. Chelsea Marciano, Erin Carroll, Heather Rooks, Candace Grosser, Kim Capica and Barbara Hacas also contributed strong play.

The eighth grade volleyball team lost a tough match to Mattlin Middle School. The Ladydogs fought hard, but came up short in the end. The team was led by Jessica Marciano, who served for six points, and the inspired play from Leigh Gomula and Andrea Koutsoftas. Strong play was also contributed by Erin Carroll and Heather Rooks.

The boys seventh grade basketball team lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Salk 59 to 54. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Bruce Davidson, Anthony Thompson, Anthony Rinaldi, Chuck Godino, Bryan Dirr, George Fotedis and Bryan Singh with two points each. Michael Doscher and Thomas Leonick had four points each. Justin O'Donnell had five points, Kevin Fusci had 11 points and leading the way for the Bulldogs was Anthony DiDomenico who had 20 points.

The boys' eighth grade basketball team traveled to Martlin and played their best basketball of the year. The Dawgs came out strong and were in the lead for the whole game until Mattlin came back and tied the game late in the fourth quarter and forced it into overtime. The Bulldogs controlled the rest of the game and came out victorious! The Dawgs were led by Dondi Peterson who had 19 rebounds and Zack Strauss who had nine points and 11 rebounds. The team was amazing on offense with Chris Bitello's 11 points and 10 assists; Rob Giovi's seven points and a season high 18 points by Mike Rossi! Great game Dawgs.
