It was a beautiful Sunday and the parents were at the field early to decorate for the big game against West Islip. The teams were announced and it was time for the game to begin.
Pee Wee Grey started the game in usual fashion, Grey's offense was awesome and on their first possession, Quarterback Tommy Celentani threw a long pass to Chris Brumber, who ran it in for Grey's first touchdown, which was followed by Jack Lang kicking for the extra points. On their next possession Grey drove the ball down the field and Lang was able to run the ball in for Grey's second touchdown. Lang followed with the kick, bringing the score to 16-0.
Early in the second quarter, Grey was able to score again when Lang ran for another touchdown. With the score 22-0, T. Celentani, Brumber, Lang, and Ronnie Modik were pulled from the game. Michael Cheshire, who had never kicked in a game before, came in to try for the extra points and made the kick. West Islip answered right back, scoring with about one minute left in the first half, making the score 24-6.
West Islip came back with a vengeance in the third quarter and was able to score two more touchdowns, bringing the score to 24-22.
The fourth quarter was a defensive battle. Grey had two good drives but was stopped both times. With just under four minutes left in the game, West Islip was driving down the field when Dominique Alexander intercepted a pass to get the ball back for Grey.
Grey won the game, 24-22, to complete an undefeated season. This is what a championship game should be. Two teams came ready to play and both teams played a great game.
The coaches want to thank the players for giving 110 percent in every game throughout the season. These boys deserved to win the championship.
The parents would like to thank the coaches, Scott Brumber, Ralph Celentani, Ray Lang, and Ronnie Modik for teaching the boys how to play football, but more importantly how to be part of a team.
