Veterans Day is a happy day when our nation takes the time to say "Thank You" for serving our nation.

Nassau County says thank you by providing certain benefits for those who served honorably. Some of those benefits are:

* Veterans tax exemption on real property for vets who own their homes.

* Free recording of your discharge and separation papers at the county clerk office.

* A Veterans Service Agency to assist vets in securing benefits from federal, state and county governments.

* Free transportation to the VA clinics at Northport and Plainview.

* A discount on fees at the Nassau County parks.

* A free "Salute to Veterans" concert in Eisenhower Park every summer.

* A candlelight vigil remembering our prisoners of war and missing in action (POW/MIA's) from all wars on third Saturday in September every year at Eisenhower Park.

* Services at the Veterans Monument in Eisenhower Park on the Sunday before Veterans Day and Memorial Day sponsored by the Nassau County United Veterans Organizations.
