On Friday afternoon, Oct. 16, the Spartans of Valley Stream North came to the dog pound to attempt to put another notch in their belt. It was not to be as the Bulldogs outdueled the Spartans 34-18. Gerard VanLeuvan, the young gunslinging quarterback, threw two touchdown passes in the game. The first was a 5-yard shuffle pass to Mike Buonomo. The other a 9-yard toss to tight end Tom Lombardi. Ryan Linzie scored his first touchdown of the season on a powerful 7-yard run. Norberto Cabarcas scored two touchdowns. His first was an interception; Norberto leaped in front of the intended receiver and made an athletic catch. It was a fantastic play. The score was 34-0 midway through the third quarter. The defense had another solid game, shutting down the Spartan offense for most of the game. Joe Swicicki did a nice job filling in for the injured player. He also punt and kick returned. The Bulldogs' record is 4-1. Next they will attempt to scalp the 5-0 Manhasset Indians.

Playing with four girls out due to illness, the Lady Bulldogs had a good game against Bethpage. With good efforts from defenders Diana Connolly, Danielle Cama, Elena O'Brien, Adina Agliano and Dana Rinaldi and excellent play from goalie Lauren Smath, it was scoreless after the first half. Also helping was the play of midfielders Ida Falcone, Stephanie Lucia and Karinda Eginton. Midway through the second half, Bethpage scored on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box when Lauren Smath stopped the initial shot, but the rebound was put in. Suffering a slight letdown, Bethpage scored again a few minutes later. The girls regrouped and played hard right to the end, but couldn't score. Nice game girls!

The Bulldogs' football team broke out in a huge way against visiting Carle Place. Although failing to score in the first quarter, the Dawgs marched the length of the field before coming up short on the 5-yard line. Carle Place had time for one play before the quarter ended and the Bulldog "B" team took the field and continued their domination from week two. Touchdown runs by Ryan Aguirre of 36 yards, Justin O'Donnell, 11 yards and Michael Doscher, 22 yards, 91 on the day broke the game open in the second stanza. The third quarter saw much of the same as James Lyons opened the first offensive series with a 30-yard scoring strike to Michael Rossi for a touchdown and Herbert Ryes added the two-point conversion with a 20-yard kick. Rossi continues to have an outstanding season with his third consecutive 100-yard game. Rossi finished his day with 175 yards rushing; all in less than half a game, highlighted by a 66-yard dash to paydirt to complete the scoring for the Bulldogs in their 34-6 romp. Key blocking in the game by Paul Wigdizinski, Matthew Fiorello, Adam Macaluso, Dondi Peterson, Cory Owen, Anthony Vecchione, Tom Carroll, Sean Collins and Chris Donnelly were major factors in the 300-yard offensive explosion. Defensively, the Bulldogs held the Frogs to negative yardage on the ground with bone crunching tackles by Zach Strauss. Gang tackling by Peter Eisele, Andy Greges, John Kean, Rocky Rossi, Greg Schwab, J.C. Stellakis, John Rerecich, Matthew Brady, Fernando Suarez and Matt Anderson kept the Frogs pinned deep in their territory all game. Defensive honors go to Remington Kilfoil for a fumble recovery and Brian Kelly for a big interception. Next up are the Quakers from Friends Academy.
