With reference to the letter submitted by Lowell Wolf and published in the Oct. 26 edition of the Levittown Tribune, Wolf informs me that it was not his intention to speak on behalf of the Levittown Community Council and, indeed, he has no authority to do that.
Wolf's letter was written on his personal stationery, in the first person singular and was intended as a reflection of his personal opinions and his personal anguish over a long drawn out situation with the Big K store located on Hempstead Turnpike and Gardiners Avenue, which is adjacent to his property.
The Levittown Community Council is a start-up organization that aims to bring together residents and community organizations in an effort to maintain Levittown unity and pride. While beautification of the community is a concern for our members and one to which we will devote concentrated efforts, Wolf's letter was not approved by our board of directors and should not be construed to be an action on the part of the Levittown Community Council.
Of course, the members of the council would like to see all businesses in this community take an interest in keeping their properties clean and attractive to customers and to residents of Levittown. Likewise, we encourage residents to maintain their properties and to help identifying public areas in their neighborhoods that need attention.
Our goals include efforts to work with the Levittown Chamber of Commerce and the Levittown Property Owners Association, government agencies, community organizations and residents to bring about many needed changes to enhance the beauty of the community so we can all take pride in the town that was dubbed by its developers as "The Garden Community."
It is our hope that all the businesses along the Hempstead Turnpike corridor and throughout Levittown will join in this effort and that the residents will join the Levittown Community Council as we begin an organized effort to beautify our town.
