The Girls Varsity Volleyball team is midway through their season. Currently they have sole possession of first place in Conference II with nine wins and one loss.
This year, Christie Ruppert, the team's senior captain, and junior co-captain Mary Harms have been outstanding offensive players. Ruppert has a total of 65 kills and Harms has added 32.
In back row action Melissa Whalen, Jessie Selock, and Jackie Burd are the key components to consistent serving. Their calm, cool, and collected approach has been the base to their success. Also in the back row, senior Christina DeQueiroz has led the team in defense with a total of 76 digs.
Other key players include Caroline Tornabene, Jen Kost, and Marie Koretsky. Good luck to all the girls. May your success continue throughout the rest of the season.
MacArthur's Boys Varsity Soccer team Conference AII at the mid-season mark. The Generals brag of a 4 win 1 loss 2 tie record which leaves them tied with Hicksville for first place.
This is MacArthur's first year in Class A. Class A consists of Nassau County's largest schools. MacArthur is only Class A by a few students, but their success is no surprise to Class A. For the past two years the Generals have qualified and have done well in the Class B County Playoffs. The playoff tournaments consist of Nassau County's toughest B schools.
The Generals brag of a strong senior oriented squad. Most of the seniors are three-year varsity lettermen. Leading the defense is Joe Gennaro, Steve Schmutzler, and Tim Watson. Halfbacks Mike Valentino, John Turchi, Rob LaForgia, and Andy Akaraputhiporn control the middle of the field. Offensive specialists Gerald Treanor and Don Sciame lead the scoring game.
The Levittown Cross Country team is off to its best start in five seasons. With 24 runners the team has its biggest turnout in years. The boy's team, which is made up of mostly freshmen and sophomores, but led by seniors Gary Hart, Mitch Merida, and Leslie Conklin are 3-3 after six races.
The girls team, led by senior co-captains Seana Grey, Sandra Pollack, juniors Christina McCabe, Anita Sauer, and sophomore Jennifer McCabe have a 4-2 record.
Both teams are entering a very difficult and critical part of their conference schedule. The Levittown Track and Cross Country programs would like to thank all fall, winter, and spring coaches for encouraging their athletes to run cross country, and/or winter or spring track. It is greatly appreciated. Good luck, cross country runners in the conference and county meets.
