This is in response to the editor's note in the July 3 edition [Levittown Tribune] on the subject of the elimination of reproductive services at Mid-Island and Massapequa General Hospitals. This is an appalling situation.

It is all very well and good for some official at Winthrop-University Hospital to tell you that they will be offering the services no longer available at the above institutions. Is there anybody at any of these institutions who has given any thought to the people who do not have automobiles to take them to Mineola or Oceanside or that public transportation is not a viable alternative? Further, has anybody considered that a patient's doctor of choice might not practice at Winthrop or South Nassau?

There have been many creative solutions at formerly secular hospitals taken over by Catholic Health Services; e.g. in Port Jefferson, where John T. Mather Memorial merged with St. Charles Hospital. In this instance services not permitted in Catholic Hospitals are provided only at Mather.

How about some consideration for the little people who need full services within their own community!
