In the opening game of the Garden City series Division won 3-0 behind the one hit pitching of Chris Flinn. Flinn recorded 15 strike outs en route to his fifth shutout of the year.
Steve Oliver got Division on the scoreboard with a first inning single, knocking in Joe Laudiso. In the fourth inning Eric Lineman knocked in Division's final two runs with a single that knocked in John Roberts and Dan Cronin. Division's big hitter for the day was Kevin Martin who banged out three hits.
In game two, the Dragons won 6-0 as Mike Pelcher hurled his third shutout. Pelcher allowed only three hits, while striking out 10 batters.
The Dragons scored three in the first inning on a sacrifice fly, by Oliver, a fielder's choice by Steve Juliano, and a hit by Cronin.
Cronin and Laudiso had two hits apiece. The Division infield turned two double plays, just narrowly missing a third. Laudiso and Oliver starred defensively for the Dragons.
In the third game Division won the sweep of the series, with an 8-4 victory. Despite illness Ryan Darcy started and was sailing along with a shutout into the fifth inning when he tired and ran out of gas. Kevin Martin came in as relief and pitched flawless baseball, getting out all eight batters, including six strike outs.
Offensively, Jason Schneider paced Division with two for two with a walk and four runs batted in. P.J. Antoniato, in his first varsity start, went three for three with a base on balls and three runs scored.
Bob Passabile had two hits and two runs scored. Laudiso had a big RBI hit and Martin had two RBIs.
This win clinched first place for the Dragons, giving them their 19th championship in the last 20 seasons.
Division opens up in the play-offs Saturday May 23 at Division, against an opponent yet to be determined. Game time will be 11 a.m.
