Hope everybody had a happy and successful holiday. With the resurgence of spring, and the fresh start it gives, let's all go forward with making this a successful Kiwanis year. We must not lose our primary focus - supporting the needs of our local community. Anyone who knows of those needing help -- counseling, labor-intensive, or monetary need -- should bring it to the board so we can make the proper decisions. Of course, the ability to meet these needs is greatly dependent on the ability to make our fund raisers: the 300 club, the 5K run and others true successes. As always, we urge all who have been away and missing our great camaraderie, to come and join us. As always, the atmosphere, camaraderie and mood has been far superior than in past years -- and that's due to the people who have been making meetings as often as possible. The more the merrier!

The Levittown Kiwanis Club is dedicated to the following:

1. To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

2. To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

3. To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business and professional standards.

4. To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship.

5. To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build better communities.

6. To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and good will.

The club has been thinking of creating a Kiwanis hotline phone number. Perhaps a senior might call if they needed some transportation to a doctor. Or someone may need some help at home. A student may need a tutor that their family could not afford.

The hotline would be a wonderful service the Levittown Kiwanis could do for its community. As you can well imagine, we need to dramatically increase our membership in order to accomplish this goal. Would you like to help with our hotline?

One of our goals is to have 200 members by the year 2000. Please help us meet our goal!

The Levittown Kiwanis is planning a 5K run for June 18. Would you like to be a sponsor or a runner? Please contact Mario A. Bucci at 520-8330, ext. 650. We also need volunteers to help that day. All proceeds go to Kiwanis sponsored charities!

Remember, the summer is on its way. The Levittown Kiwanis Club gives out scholarships to high school seniors every year. They also send needy children from the community to Camp Kiwanis. Please send your donation to: Kiwanis Club of Levittown, Inc., PO Box 152, Levittown, NY 11756.

Please note on your check what to use the funds for: Scholarship or summer camp or both. The more we collect, the more we can do for the young people of Levittown.

Are you interested in joining? Please come to one of our meetings for a "look see." I guarantee you'll be impressed.

Wednesday, April 29 -- Terrific Kids, Lee Road Elementary School, 9:30 a.m.

Thursday, April 30 -- Terrific Kids, Summit Lane Elementary School, 10 a.m.

Wednesday, May 20 -- Terrific Kids, Wisdom Lane Middle School, 10:15 a.m.

Come to any or all of the above to experience "That Kiwanis Feeling." It's like no other feeling in the world and I just cannot describe it in mere words. Please come see what it's all about.

Would you still like to purchase a 50th anniversary Coverlet? Please contact Mrs. Waller at 735-3083 to place your order. They are $50 each in advance.

Would you like to join an organization of community people who give back to their community?

Did you know Kiwanis has a web site? For you computer hackers: check Kiwanis International Web Site at http://www/kiwania, org.

Do you have any unused food coupons from the Sunday paper? Please collect them and drop them off at one of our meetings. They are used for the Head Start program.

The Levittown Kiwanis Club meets every Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at The Landmark Grill, 2716 Hempstead Turnpike, Levittown, NY 11756, 735-4900.

Please stop by and get involved with the Kiwanis Club of Levittown and see what it does for its community.

Look for the Kiwanis Korner in the paper every week.
