If any one person is the epitome of courage on and off the athletic field, Brooke McCarthy is it! McCarthy has played soccer and basketball for the Lady Dragons of Division Avenue High School for the past four years. She has won four All-Star awards (from All-Conference to All-League) and is captain of both teams.

Last session McCarthy helped the girls' soccer team clinch the Conference V title with an inspirational game the same week her grandfather (and greatest fan) passed away. Brooke was told by the Dragon coaching staff that everyone would certainly understand if she did not play that week. McCarthy said her grandfather would be watching and would want her to play. And play she did, helping the Dragons beat Lawrence and Wheatley for the Championship.

McCarthy's true love is basketball. She has been a valuable part of two Conference Championship teams and has led every team she has played on to the playoffs. McCarthy is also closing in on the girl's record for most career assists.

Early this season McCarthy met with heartache again; she dislocated her knee cap. Many athletes would have given up for the season, but not McCarthy! She missed four games and has worked hard to return to the team. Many coaches in the Conference did not have the opportunity to see McCarthy play, but she was still voted for the All-Conference team two consecutive years.

McCarthy's desire and dedication have been an inspiration to the team and the Lady Dragons look for continued success. Thanks to McCarthy's leadership!
