This year's Boys Junior Varsity Basketball Team had one eighth-grader, Gerard VanLeuvan, on the team. By the end of the year he was not only leading the team in total points with 178, scoring average at 12 points per game, total free throws with 71, but he became the team leader. He also led the team in rebounding and was second in blocked shots. At the end of any close game-and there were a lot of them-the team always looked to punch the ball into him. Along with the players in his grade, the JV and Varsity coach are looking forward to the next four years. The Middle School Wrestling Team finished their season at 6 and 1, after a disappointing 32-34 loss to Seaford. It was anybody's match to win throughout the competition and Seaford was able to pull it off. Individual wins by Matt Brady, Cliff Braun, Steve Squitieri, Jimmy Lyons and Chris Lorenzini helped keep the match close. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs had an outstanding season, doubling their wins from last season. With the loss of the eighth-grade leaders like Julio Barea, Steve Squitieri and Chris Lorenzini, the team will look to exceptional seventh-graders to make the difference. Congratulations on a phenomenal season!

The Girls Red Basketball team had an outstanding game! From the first period to the fifth, the Lady Bulldogs played strong offense and defense. Rockin' the court was Lisa Smith with 18 points. A magnificent three-pointer was scored by Jen D'Albenzio. Other spectacular shots were made by Erin "Bat Girl" Ludewig with 2; Erin Carroll with 2; Jen Grella with 2; and Jade Nelson also with 2. Excellent defense was played by Danielle Cama, Jackie Wilson, Maria Foschino, Karinda Eginton and Lisa Costa. The Girls Red Basketball Team won 36 to 30 over Plainview. Great game!

The Girls White Basketball team concluded their season against #1 rated and final 4 bound Wantagh. Playing an extremely physical and aggressively defensive game, the Lady Dawgs held the Warriors to their lowest point total of the year (nearly 20 below their season's average). Eliminating the Wantagh fast break by keeping two defenders at mid-court and crashing the boards with great intensity kept the game within reach. Jodie Schoppmann led the way with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots. Ashley Tonno scored 5 and dogged the opposition unmercifully. Elena O'Brien once again performed to new heights by scoring 4 points to go along with her 12 rebounds; 5 blocks and countless altering of would-be shooters. This was all against a team with a distinct height advantage. Others scoring were Chelsea Marciano, Jodie Rose and Corinne Vinberg. Rebecca Santoriello scored a bucket and jumped, bumped and thumped for 10 rebounds and assisted on multiple bruises. Jessica Marciano, Jamie Zetterberg, Liz Dinolfo, Dana Rinaldi, Kristen Schafer and Allison McVeigh all played terrific defense throughout. This team improved with each and every game and should be applauded for their grit and determination. Great job, girls!
