Island Trees Middle School Athletics
The Girls White Basketball Team avenged a 20-point loss to Plainview with a 37-30 victory in a game played in the noisy Dawg pound. With the girls clinging to a two-point lead entering the fifth period of play, they pulled off the impossible by shutting out Plainview in the quarter and gaining an emotional, hard-fought and deserving win. Two outstanding games were turned in by co-captains Jodie Schoppmann and Ashley Tonno each of whom scored 14 and controlled the action throughout. Schoppmann's clutch free throw with 24 seconds remaining sealed the victory. Tonno inspirationally pulled herself off the deck late in the game, after taking an elbow to the nose, to score the final two points.

Karen Rice MacArthur High School
Karen Rice is MacArthur High School's choice for the Athlete Spotlight for the Week of March 9. Karen has been a member of the Varsity winter and spring track teams for the past three years. In this, her third and final season, she had a very successful winter season by qualifying for the Nassau County Section VIII Track Meet where she competed against the best runners in Nassau County in the 4 by 100 relay team.
