On February 19th, the Levittown Senior Center held a birthday party for Guillermo Versosa, who has lived in the development since it opened 29 years ago.

Versosa, who turned 100 on February 10, was joined at the party by his wife of 67 years, Graziella, and his daughter Lora Henderson. His other daughter, Nancy Nicolaysea, who lives in North Carolina, came for a party held in Versosa's honor earlier in the month. That party took place at Crystalbrook in East Meadow and was attended by 86 of Versosa's friends and family.

Present at the Senior Center party were fellow residents of the center as well as Assemblyman Marc Herbst, Nassau County Legislator Dennis Dunne, and Marilyn Brennan from the Nassau County Department of Senior Enrichment. Dunne presented Versosa a citation on behalf of the Nassau County Legislature, honoring him for reaching his 100th birthday. On behalf of the New York State Assembly, Herbst wished Versosa and his family much success and happiness.

Versosa was born in 1898 in the Philippines and is a World War II veteran who joined the Navy when he was 44 years old. Dennis Dunne responded to this by saying, "Is he a patriot, or what?" He joined the Levittown VFW over 20 years ago.

The Levittown Senior Center has been very lucky to have Versosa as a vital member for so many years. He still takes care of the grounds of the development, caring for the flowers, landscaping, and fertilizing the plants. As the captain of the shuffleboard team for seven years, Versosa suffered only one loss. He has also enjoyed woodcarving over the years and was an active participant in the center's woodcarving class. Versosa also volunteered cooking at the center for years, and according to his daughter the residents lined up to eat when he was cooking.

Versosa has two daughters, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. His great-grandchildren range in age from 5 to 19. He recently attended a sweet 16 party for one of his great-granddaughters. Henderson says that, "The children all adore him."

The Levittown Senior Center has over 700 members and all the members are invited to their monthly birthday and anniversary party. These parties include music, food, and dancing for the seniors. Versosa was given a special cake for the occasion and the president of the center presented him with a shirt that the center had made specially for him. The shirt had flowers on it, in honor of all the work that Versosa has done on the grounds and was inscribed with the phrase 100 years.

Versosa responded to all the speeches, presentations, singing, and cake-cutting by saying, "Thank you to everybody for this."
