Joann Sangiuolo, 29, of Levittown, died on Dec. 27, 1997. She moved from Queens in 1985 where she lived with her mother Nellie and her father Joe. She moved to Levittown to live with her brother, James Aloi Jr. and she attended school at Island Trees High School. Shortly after she graduated she attended Nassau Community College and received her associate's degree. She was presently attending college at SUNY Old Westbury with future plans of being a psychologist.

Joann also worked as a clerk and cashier for Caldor Dept. Store in Levittown. Hundreds of friends and co-workers and some customers attended her wake services. They all said Joann was the most helpful and caring person they ever knew. She would stay late every night and work to help all of her co-workers finish their jobs. Her manager stated that Joann was one of the most devoted and honest employees that Caldor ever employed.
On Thanksgiving Day 1996, Joann became the proud aunt of Dana-Marie Aloi. In March of 1997 she became the proud godmother of Ana-Marie. In January of 1997, Joann found out that her stepdad James Aloi Sr. was diagnosed with stomach cancer. She helped her stepdad get through the next few months. She cared for him totally, helped him, gave him his medications and kept him company. She also took some time off work and school to help take care of him. Her stepdad passed away on April 21, 1997. Joann was devasted by his death.
Joann was a devoted, caring and special person. who loved music, soap operas and writing.
On Dec. 27, 1997, at 8:35 p.m., Joann left work from Caldor. She was crossing Hempstead Tpke., near Wantagh Ave., when she was struck by a vehicle. She was taken to NCMC where she was brought into the trauma unit. She died at 9:18 p.m.
Joann is truly, deeply loved and missed by her brother Jimmy, her sister-in-law Denise and her much-loved goddaughter Dana-Marie, as well as her mom, dad, family and friends. Joann's wake was at the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home Levittown Chapel. Funeral Mass was held at St. James Church, Seaford, on New Year's Day. Joann was put to rest at St. Charles Cemetery.
John Franklin Pople, 81, died on Dec. 30, 1997. Born in Greece, he received his bachelor's degree from Hobart College and his master's degree from NYU. He was a US Marine veteran, retiring with the rank of Captain. He lost his left leg during the Battle of Peleliu, in the Palau Islands during the Pacific Campaign, and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Pople taught history and Spanish at Island Trees High School from 1953 to 1972. H was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia (Addison). He is survived by his second wife, Hleen (Kobelski); his children Candace Curran and David Pople; and five grandchildren. Services were held at St Peter's RC Church, W. Columbia, SC.
