Students in East Meadow High School's Advanced Electronics Information Processing class and the website design company Graphic Details have created a new website for the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce.
When the high school's principal, Diana Tadoro (also a chamber board member) heard that the business group was hiring Graphic Details owner Jo Anne Richards to create the new website, she immediately saw an opportunity for her students. She suggested that the AEIP class work hand in hand with Graphic Details to develop the site.
"The program was such a phenomenal success that we have decided to implement it as a pilot program," Richards said. "Our goal is to work with students all over Long Island to create websites for all the local Chambers of Commerce and other community organizations."
Added the students' teacher, Cynthia Belis, in a statement from Graphic Details: "It was a double period class. When the bell would ring for the break between periods nobody would get up from their computer. They would just keep working through."
The website was launched this month in an official ceremony attended by East Meadow Superintendent Dr. Raymond McCloat and Hempstead Town Supervisor Greg Peterson.
