In Island Trees: Spikers, Basketballers Hit MS Court

The Island Trees Middle School Red volleyball team beat Plainview in the first two games of their five game match recently. However, they dropped the next three by very close scores.

Island Trees got some tremendous digs from Candace Grosser and Erin Ludewig. Kim Brennan got her serve and passing on track. Jessalyn Hutnik and Jen Grella gave great floor support. Game two's victory was led by Tasha Weinmann and Rebecca Santoriello.

The White volleyball team shut out Packard in five straight games. Outstanding performances were given by Ashley Tonno, Lisa Smith, Heather Rooks and Patty Eleazer.

The Red basketball team played a very spirited game against the Wantagh Warriors recently. Although falling short, the Dawgs were paced again by Damon Moore with a game high 12. Mike Fusci played large down low and scored eight along with Mike Thompson's eight from long range. Other scorers were Pat Iannone, Pete Kostaras, Donald Schneider, Justin Gennaro and Joe McCauley. Aggressive defense was played by Rob Giovi, Paul Gartner and Julio Barea.

The White basketball team played Mattlin on Nov. 27. Through the first two quarters, the Bulldogs kept it close trailing only by three after each quarter. But the hard work and effort wasn't enough and Mattlin prevailed at the end of four quarters. The Bulldogs tried to get a rally going. Chris Bitetto led the way making great shots and passes, but the Bulldogs could not come all the way back.
