Traffic Light Urged in Island Trees Area

I believe there is a deep concern regarding the traffic on Wantagh Avenue and the lack of a traffic light in the area between Hempstead Turnpike and Miller Place/Cotton Lane.

Over the years, there has been an increase in the volume of traffic in this area. It is very difficult to get across the avenue in the late afternoon/early evening, when the pedestrians in the area are coming or going from the Island Trees schools, where many activities are going on.

I know a number of requests have been made to put a light at Straight Lane. It was also said that this might not be a good place, because it could cause traffic backup in front of the middle school, and perhaps on Hempstead Turnpike, too. Well then, perhaps a light at Gingham Lane and West Lane would be a better location.

We need to do something about this as soon as possible while school is in progress, and before someone is seriously injured.
