Gigi’s Pizza Marlins vs. City Line Florist Angels
What an exciting playoff game between the Marlins and Angels at Merillon this afternoon. It was a well played contest, but the Marlins pitching and defense were the deciding factors. Kenny Gensch struck out a batter in the first and later drove in a pair with a two-strike, two-out liner. Also in the first, David Klebanow (fresh off his grand slam on Thursday) made a strong throw to catcher Ivan Vidaich who made an outstanding play to record the third out. Eric Madenberg then pitched a lights-out second inning, fanning all three batters while only throwing three balls the entire frame. Sean O’Connor struck out two in the third inning and also scored two big runs. To end the Angels threat in the third inning, third baseman Dylan Kareff fielded a hot grounder and made a perfect toss to Elliot Weissman who alertly covered from shortstop. Elliot also pitched the final two innings, recording five strikeouts. Jake Blancher was a star on offense, belting two hits and driving in a big run. Matthew Baronci drove in two with a key third-inning hit. Charlie Goodwin also walked and scored in the inning. Chris Bruccoleri was solid in the field and in the leadoff role. On to the semifinals!

Salmon Limousine Services Rays 7, vs.
BAB Mechanical Astros 6
In a fantastic finish to their regular season, the Rays came away with a heart-pounding 7-6 victory over the awesome Astros, and in doing so secured the top seed heading into the playoffs. The game was close throughout, with the lead changing hands in nearly every inning. The Rays began the bottom of the 6th inning trailing 6-5. Jared Schwartz got the inning going by working out a huge, hard-fought walk after being down in the count 0-2. After a strikeout by the next batter and a steal of 2nd, Jared then stole 3rd to get that much closer to tying the score. After fouling off a pitch while trying to squeeze Jared home, Brian Volk then delivered the tying RBI with a solid chopper up the middle. The next batter, Ryan Hodes, worked out another tough walk, during which Brian was able to steal 2nd and 3rd. When the next batter struck out, Brian alertly raced for home and scored the winning run. Quite a finish to a great game by both teams. The Rays would not have even been in a position to come back and win the game had it not been for the strong pitching trio of Matt O’Connor, Jordan Greiff and Jacob Seidenberg. Earlier hitting heroics were recorded by Michael Telsey and Jordan Greiff. Also keeping the Rays in the game were the strong defense displayed by Matt O’Connor, Jack Tucker, Jared Hodes, Jacob Leventhal and Karan Thadhani. Special thanks go to Andrew Kadish, who has spent the 2nd half of the season on the 60-day DL but came out anyway to root on his teammates.
Merillon Girls Notre Dame CYO Lightning 11 vs Garden City Orange 8
Great heads up base running and timely defense led to victory for team Lightning. Jessica Vissichelli, Sophia Leeds, Mariella Facibene, and Isabella Fazzolari showed their fielding skills by making some outstanding plays in the field to keep the opponent off the bases. Natalie Patrey, Jenna Marshiano, Kelsey Nathan, Hannah Kareff, and Casey Sanders played good aggressive base running, paying off by beating out some close plays at home. Rachel Moss slapped a nice base hit to drive in a run. Monique Vavro, Kasey Bourduas, and Giavanna Maniaci showed patience at the plate and took some nice cuts. The girls saved the best for last, when a true show of teamwork sealed the victory in the final inning. Great Job Lightning!!
Knights of Columbus #2852 Merillon Dragons 17 vs. Williston Park Central 4
The Merillon Dragons played the best game today making very few mistakes and it showed in the outcome. The stars of the game are Brittany Levkulic, Madison Solomon and Nicole Kuzler for the outstanding work pitching and keeping the other team off the bases. We had some outstanding batting from Kristen Renta who went 2-2 with a walk and 4RBI’s as well as throwing out two runners at third. Solid batting came from the rest of the team as well as in the field for an all around great effort. Let’s keep it going we are on a roll and I see good things happening. “Let’s Go Dragons.”
