Wildcats Soccer Roundup: May 21, 2010

It was a super day for soccer and the TOPSoccer Program had 2 super games!  The juniors battles to a 4-4 tie.  The green team had great goals by Sammy Duggan, Andrea Cellucci (2) and Brittany Anderson, who also had a spell as goalie.  The red team’s goals were scored by 4 different players - Josh Hom, Kevin Chan, Sophacles Gianakis and Tristan Yang.   Matt Saraiva was the star of the senior match with a ‘hat trick’ (3 goals).  David Glass added another goal as he teamed up with Matt and Kendall Toomer for some outstanding passes.  Stefani Egre tallied one for the red team and an ‘own goal’ accounted for the second score.  Justin Durso was a dynamo with his aggressive play and numerous scoring chances.  - Rich Bletsch, Director

NHP Lady Pumas – 2, Garden City – 0

In a game that was far more one-sided than the score indicated, the NHP Lady Pumas dominated Garden City in route to NHP’s 3d straight league win. The offense was led by Izzy Glennon (2 goals), Katie Krems, Sophia Leeds, Theodora Popadoniou, Casey Sanders and Cara Becker (1 assist) who combined for 16 shots on goal and another half dozen near misses.  The defense was super and only allowed 2 shots on goal.   Mackenzie Griffin, Stephanie Karczewski and Isabel Ugolini were simply dominant, while Kira Crehan did a great job trapping punted balls.  Edna Dudek did a great job as keeper in the first half, and allowed no goals.  Casey Sanders did the same in the 2d half.  GREAT JOB, LADIES!

Nhp Lady Pumas – 5, Merrick – 2

The NHP Lady Pumas made it 4 in a row with a very hard fought win against a very good Merrick team, continuing a stretch where we have outscored opponents 16-4.  The offense was led by Katie Krems (3 goals and an assist), Cara Becker (1 goal), Casey Sanders (1 goal), Izzy Glennon (1 Assist), Theodora Papadoniou (1 assist and laser shots), and Sophia Leeds.  The Defense was again solid with Mackenzie Griffin, Stephanie Karczewski, Isabel Ugolin and Kira Crehan holding off a very potent Merrick attack time after time.  In goal was Enda Dudek who was fantastic on the day with 12 saves and ZERO rebounds.  BRAVO, BRAVO!

New Hyde Park Soccer Shooters vs.Firecrackers –

Team Soccer Shooters played an unbelievable game vs. the Firecrackers on this beautiful May Sunday. Debuting in goal was Joanna Mauceri who stepped up to the plate to play goal & what a game she displayed defending her goal.. Great goal tending Joanna!! Very Strong on defense was Aria Nair, Rhiannon Chieffo & Daniela O’Modie each marking their opponent very closely and smart plays made on the mid field line by Sabrina Rodrigues & Gabriella Caicedo making passes to their offensive line led by Marina Pappas & Madeline Slaski who worked very well together taking many great shots on goal.  The Firecrackers were able to take the lead by one, however Team Soccer Shooters answered them back with a goal by Madeline Slaski right to the open spot in goal to tie up the match. Great Goal Madeline!! The Firecrackers came back & took a one goal lead into the half. Team Soccer Shooters were determined to tie up the game & that they did as Marina Pappas gets possession of the ball in the goal box & with her great footwork was able to fake out a couple of opponents to net a very amazing, vital goal away from the goalie to tie up the match. Great Goal Marina!! Both teams wanting that winning goal as Rhiannon Chieffo blocks a strong kick with her head to deflect the ball out toward the goal line as she denied the Firecrackers at a chance to score.  Orna Kidanian & Sabrina Rodrigues playing very aggressively, getting the ball up the field to their offense to have play dominant on the opposing team side as Madeline Slaksi & Marina Pappas anticipating the pass, taking many beautiful shots on goal.  Both teams demonstrating amazing talent & with time ticking away Team Soccer Shooters were denied a goal for the lead as the Firecrackers came back. We are so very proud of Team Soccer Shooters for the game of soccer that was displayed today.  Thank You for an amazing game to Coach as we watch you play your very best!! Big Thanks out to Mr. Slaksi for your help in Coaching the girls to a wonderful game!! Thank You to our Family & Friends for cheering All the players on!! Congrats to both team for an exciting game!! Missing the help of Irene Krische, Marcela Curcio & Alexandra Gootman.
