New Hyde Park Little League Snippets: July 12, 2013

NHPLL Girls Major Division

The major girls division ended their year on 6/15 at the NHPLL All-Star Saturday on June 15. American League (Giant Industrial) beat National League (William A. Gross Construction) 14-4. The team was selected to the 2013 Little League Williamsport Tournament Team.

NHPLL Major Girls started the Little League Williamsport District 29 Tournament on June 17 at Pistillo Field beating Malvern 11-1 in five innings. They  will face Franklin Square June 19 at the same location at 5:30 p.m. All NY Little league Dist. 29 brackets can be found at or

The NHPLL WP team will open the Little League Williamsport Dist. 29 Tournament on June 26 at Whelan Field, 6 p.m. against Garden City South.

NHPLL Girls Minor Division

HNP’s Zadnik beat West Hempstead 2 by a score of 8-3 on June 12. There were quite a few close plays at first-base. Mia B. and Katie P. pitched two beautiful innings each and Marisa O. close out the game. Marisa O. had a single and two doubles with three runs and three RBI’s. Katie H. had two singles with 1 RBI and Megan had 1 walk, a single and a double. Sarah and Maria did great as always being the catcher.

Megan and Marisa were hot on the pitcher’s mound for sure but were just off their game on All-Star Saturday. While Mathnasium pitched Jones. Rullo, Kurzrock, Mikowski and Giamarino, Rullo and Kurzrock caught while Maria and Sarah caught the day for Zadnik.  It was a close game but American League (Mathnasium) just squeezed by 7-5 to oust the National League (Zadnik D.D.S.).

Zadnik had two hits on the day (a single and a double) while Mathnasium had six hits (four singles, a double and a triple) and lit up the base paths with their wild running.

Marisa Ogden and Sophia Giamarino received defensive players of the game, Maria Lodato and Julia Kurzrock received offensive players of the Game, and Katie Hopkins and Claire Mikowski were awarded MVP of the game.

Current standings: Zadnik DDS 12-2-1 and Mathnasium 9-7-1.
