On Saturday, June 16 the Lower Farms American League team took on the Lower Farms National League team in an epic battle for bragging rights at Merillon Field.
Mother Nature cooperated and gave us a beautiful sunny day for the event. All of our All-Stars were announced in style by our master of ceremonies, Dan Conner, who did a fabulous job.
We then heard a wonderful rendition of our national anthem, followed by the ceremonial first pitch that was thrown out by our league president, Joe Renta. Then it was time to play ball!
After the first two innings the score was just 1-0 National League with some fine defensive plays by both teams.
At the end of the third inning the score was 4-2 American League. In the top of the fourth the National League squeezed out two runs to knot the game at four. The National league broke the game open with some big hits by the middle of their line up and managed to break out to an 8-4 lead.
The American League tried to rally in the bottom of the fifth but could only push one across on a long double.
The last inning saw spectacular defense by both teams as both teams went down in order.
Congratulations to the National League Champs! Both teams played great to the delight of the many fans that came out to cheer them on. Leading the offense for the National League were LJ Tsiforas 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs, Zachary Israel 3 for 3 with an RBI, John Downing 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, Parker Cohen 2 for 3 with an RBI and Vincent Pepe 2 for 3 with an RBI. Rounding out the National League team, Marco Gullo, Ryan Kunak, Anthony Agerenza, Arjun Bhatt, Christopher Exleben and Joseph Mattei.
Leading the offense for the American League was Ryan Wasserman 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a double, Kenny Hirschfeld 2 for 3 with an RBI, Jack Kareff 2-3 with a double, Christopher Chin 2-3 and Alan Sikora 2-2. Rounding out the American League team, John Dunn, James Asmus, Brendan Cooper, Jon David Zebitsch, Scott McClellan, Michael Merolla and Bobby Symanski.
I would like to thank everyone involved for making this day a great success.
