The Merillon summer league started off with great defensive and offensive plays. In the field, Mathew Merolla, Cenzo Montoni, Jordan Seidenberg, Paulie Depaulis, Joseph Muratore, and Christian Zamora, continued where they left off in the spring. The newest Dodgers, Jack Nathan, Justin Marsella, Harrison Goldring, Michael Campagnoulo, Logan Golia, and Nicholas Marsella also demonstrated their fundamentals of baseball. The bats were alive with all the players getting on base and scoring 16 runs.
It was a great opening day. All of the players did a great job. Offensive stars for the Braves were Christopher Bruccoleri, Daniel Garcia, Hayden Leiderman, Daniel Raziyev, Joshua Raziyev, Daniel Reilly and Garrett Roth with 2 hits each. Ryan Wasserman, Erik Lyngstad Hughes and Timothy Kurpiewski all contributed with 1 hit each.
The Dodgers again showed off their defensive skills when Paul Depaulis, Mathew Merolla, Vincenzo Montoni, Joe Muratore, Michael Campagnuolo, Nicholas Marsella, Logan Golia, and Christian Zammora stopped the Athletics from scoring in the 3rd inning. The Dodgers repeated a shut-out inning in the 5th with 2 great defensive plays by Alex O’Keefe, and Jack Nathan. Lastly, the offense is getting some help from Justin Marsella and Harrison Goldring who are both swinging better at the plate.
The Athletics were in mid season for down at the yard this week. They really had their hitting shoes on this week. Our Slugger Awards A. Gullo, J. Witt, J. Tamara, S. Derocchis A. Agerenza and C. Carbone. Our Platinum Slugger Awards go to C. Piccirillo and C.J. Riccobono for their late inning power blasts of the game. Our Gold Glove Awards go to A. Gullo, J. Witt, C. Piccirillo, C. It was a well played game on both sides. Both teams played good defense scored a lot of runs. Offensive stars for the Braves were Christopher Bruccoleri, Aditya Jindal, & Ankit Agrawal with 3 hits each. Garrett Roth, Hayden Leiderman, Daniel Raziyev, Anshul Agrawal, Ryan Wasserman and Daniel Garcia with 2 hits each. Erik Lyngstad Hughes, Timothy Kurpiewski & Daniel Reilly all contributed on defense.
Thomas Murphy opened up the allstar season as the pitcher and got the victory for his strong 3 innings. Louis Plomatillo finished the game for the save. The hitting stars were, Brendan Quinn (with a double off the wall), Jack Nuttall (double), Yanni Rigos (double) and Nick Mangia (single).
Gregory Haynes’ complete game 1 hitter led the way for the Sharks. The hitting star was Greg Donovan (3 for 3 with 4 rbis), the Sharks had a total of 17 hits. The fielding stars were Anthony Lanzilotta in right field and Tom Murphy at first base, both made big plays when the game was scoreless.
Tommy Murphy pitched 4 strong innings to get his second win of the summer. The hitting star was Christian Carrick with a bases loaded triple (in which he scored) in the second inning to bust the game open. The fielding star was Matt Vowinkel with 2 nifty put outs in right field.
Vincent Rossello pitched a 2 hitter over 5 innings, as he continued the Sharks strong pitching. The hitting star was Peter Restivo back from the injured list with 2 hits. The fielding stars were the middle infielders Nick Mangia and Greg Donovan.
