It’s been quite busy throughout the village as the warm weather has settled in. Our village employees spent a productive two weeks preparing the Roger Fay Williston Park Pool for this year’s season. This group did an excellent job as the facility looks quite impressive. From water quality to landscaping, the group didn’t miss a beat.
With the facility now open, Pool Manager Paul Blake, along with returning Assistant Manager Anne Buttafucco have taken a number of steps to ensure a successful, fun-filled pool season. Early signs indicate that their efforts, along with the efforts of our valued pool staff, will bring positive results.
With the pool in full swing, our outdoor crews have directed their attention to tree trimming- removal(only when absolutely necessary!) concrete repairs, pothole/street repair, along with a myriad of other tasks. Our sanitation crews have been extra busy as waste materials increase during the warmer months. I ask all to follow the village guidelines regarding correct days of pick up, holiday schedules and most importantly weight guidelines. There was no pickup on July 4th as the village will be on a holiday schedule for the week.
On June 10, I was proud to represent the Village Board at the annual installation of Officers of the Corporal Theodore G. Nier Post 1688, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Thanks to outgoing Commander Charlie Boyd for his service and congratulations to incoming Commander William Vesely.
As the local schools end for the year, I have attended a number of graduation ceremonies. At the elementary level, I attended moving up ceremonies for the fifth graders at both Cross Street School and the Center Street School. Both events were impressive as the youngsters looked great in their “Sunday best”. Presentations by both groups had to make their parents, families and educators proud.
I also attended both Herricks Middle School and High School graduations. Watching all three groups ( Elementary, Middle, HS) in various stages of transition was quite enlightening. On behalf of the Village Board, congratulations to all Williston Park graduates on all levels and wish all well as they move forward.
Once again, the Williston Park Fire Department sponsored the Fourth of July parade. Not many areas have continued this enjoyable Americana tradition, therefore I ask all residents to come out line are streets and applaud our Fireman, Veterans, Little Leaguers, and all the participants in the parade. Enjoy the Fourth!!! Please drive safely to protect those around us.
