Thank You for Passing Capital Project

On behalf of the students in the New Hyde Park-Garden City School District, we would like to thank you for your support in passing the Capital Reserve Vote. During the process, we listened to our constituency regarding the fact that they wanted additional opportunities to offer input in financial matters. As a result, we will be exploring new ways to gather community input regarding the creation of the school district budget. The district’s goal is to obtain small group input/recommendations regarding budget building. We began this process last year at the Public Input Budget meetings by asking the following questions:

What is it in terms of programs and services which you feel you cannot live without to offer our students a well-rounded education?

What services or programs do you feel we can currently eliminate without hurting students?

What programs or skills do we need to implement to prepare our students for the 21st Century work place?

We already realize that there will be additional cuts to state aid and expenses are going up, and there will be additional mandated, unfunded expenses passed onto school districts from the county, state and federal government. We have unfortunately a “perfect storm” to contend with. Our ultimate goal is to continue to provide a well-rounded quality education within a fiscally sound and affordable budget for all constituents.

This is the challenge for the district and the Board of Education and we will be seeking your help to accomplish it.
