At the last meeting of the Village of New Hyde Park before the holidays, trustee Richard Coppola thanked the members of the New Hyde Park Auxiliary Police for doing such a great job of protecting the area. He said there was just one incident recently at Memorial Park and it was discovered that the incident was burning of garbage in the park.
However, he reminded residents if they see anything going on either in the parks or elsewhere to please call 911 so it can be checked.
Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro thanked the members of the Beautification Committee, under the direction of Rich Pollisco, for doing such a wonderful job in decorating Marcus Christ Hall for the children’s magic show and for all the decorating outside of village hall. He added, “Rich always does such a wonderful job.”
Trustee Donald Barbieri wished everyone a great holiday. He then said, “I know for a fact that the plans for the New Hyde Park Jericho Turnpike Main Street have in fact been submitted, in their revised forms, to the DOT. However, I haven’t heard anything about how the review is going.”
Barbieri continued, “The other issue I wanted to talk about is not exactly a village project; however, it is the New Hyde Park Historical Committee and they meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
They are busy collecting and cataloging all the items they have received from residents throughout New Hyde Park but they need more volunteers. Anyone who would like to volunteer can call New Hyde Park Village Hall at 354-0022 for further information.
Mayor Daniel Petruccio praised the program at Marcus Christ Hall, under the direction of Lisa Miranda. He said the magic show for the children was great, but this year both the choral and orchestra groups from New Hyde Park Memorial High School were spectacular. He said,
“It just puts you in the Christmas mood to be at such an uplifting event topped off by, of course, Santa.”
Trustee Barbieri added, “I think since they have been performing inside, instead of outside, in the cold, it is a much better because they are able to perform their entire repertoire.”
Barbieri also said that after the holidays, the musical groups from Memorial will perform a program at the William Gill Theatre, atop New Hyde Park Village Hall.
In the resolution portion of the meeting, the mayor appointed Ruth Bennett as secretary to the Planning Board.
The meeting ended and the next meeting is set for January 3 at 8 p.m. at village hall, corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park.
