Opinion

We have been residents in the Herricks School District for 16 years. Our three children have attended school here at all levels and we currently have one child in the high school and one who is getting ready to graduate from the middle school in June. As you might imagine, we have witnessed significant turnover on the Board of Education and, without reservation, we can say quite candidly that the current board, which includes Rich Buckley and Patrick Grisafi has done a magnificent job. Gone are the days of apathetic and "tax-pack" board members, who systematically decimated the quality of education and special programs simply to placate the minority of disgruntled taxpayers. We are taxpayers as well and while we understand the economic difficulties that we all face, we are not prepared to mortgage our children's futures. The current board of education has restored our educational integrity, extra-curricular program and sought funding to improve the buildings and grounds. All of these goals were accomplished, while maintaining fiscally responsible budgets. We applaud them for their hard work and dedication and in this election year, do proudly support Rich Buckley and Peter Grisafi as candidates for re-election in the upcoming Herricks School Board elections.
